The Many Uses Of The Tensile Tower
The tensile tower is one of the most used pieces of equipment in our test lab. Whether it’s finished goods testing, DV, process validation, or research testing the tower and load cells are used for one or more tests. Below is a video of a coiled shaft being pulled to its breaking point. We can see that the outer jacket breaks before the liner and the coil, the load cell above the top jaw tells us the peak force, and the console to the right can tell us how far the shaft stretched until it broke. Tensile strength is just one thing we use the tower to test for, we also perform 3-point bend, stiffness, and bond strength tests. While the tensile tower can provide us valuable information for product development, it is also a vital tool in proving ISO-compliance to reach the market.
